Midlands Country House
This smart Georgian country house renovation was a varied project of replica 16th Century doors, fine walnut double doors, our signature wide oak flooring and fitted cabinetry
From humble farmhouse origins, through its extensive Georgian expansion, this house retained lots of varied character and, under the stewardship of a new owner with a keen eye and a sensitive approach, its restoration aimed to bring it into the next phase of its life.
We were initially asked to replicate one of the original 16th Century doors. Sitting at the end of a corridor, two doorways needed to work as a pair but sadly one of the doors had been previously lost and a faithful replica was the best way to bring this part of the house back together.

Working directly for the client, our involvement grew with each additional piece we produced
For the initial commission, the original 16th Century door was brought to our workshop where our in-house teams of joiners, carvers and surface finishers all looked at their respective parts in replicating the door, following the construction methods and tools used in the original. Colour and patina were matched exactly by our finishers and the replica produced.
With the door installed, we worked with the client on a succession of additional work, first on structural elements like beams and posts to make sense of changes in the house, then on to flooring, cabinetry in the boot room and wine room, further internal and external doors, including a pair of beautiful French polished walnut double doors.

Our team supported this restoration in a completely flexible way, and in doing so, brought more to the project than could have been imagined at the outset
By being open to working alongside the clients at their pace, and being able to consult, design, make and fit our work as ideas developed, this project flowed and evolved in a completely organic way.
By using us as a sounding board and asking us to be creative with designs at each stage, even with very loose ideas, we were able to solve problems with some seamless restoration work, turning some tricky design challenges into beautiful statement pieces.
